  2. Sean Wickersham
  3. Diane Dillon
  4. Rob Andreae
  5. Bob Hoffman
  6. Chuck Meibeyer
  7. Alan Fowler
  8. Steve Yost
  9. Hendrik Smeding
  10. Jerry McQuiddy
  11. Inge Saltnes
  12. Morris Minton

As you may know, the funds raised from the tournament go towards 2 scholarships the Chamber awards to deserving St. Helena High School students, as well as a scholarship for one Chamber member to go through the Leadership Napa Valley program.

Thanks for agreeing to play in the tournament! The reviews from last year (our first at Yountville) were sensational and we try to keep it fun and at a good value ($100 includes 18 holes, electric cart, lunch, dinner, beer, wine, tee prizes).

Fellow Rotarian Jim Wright is the co-chair of the tournament as well as the presenting sponsor (Vintage Bank). If you haven't signed up please contact one of us and we will get you entered.

LISA MARIE ANDERSEN
BECOMES FIRST ST. HELENA ROTARY CLUB MEMBER MOTHER

On Tuesday, April 1, 2003 Lisa Marie gave birth to a baby daughter (no name yet) at St. Helena Hospital. She is the first woman member of our club to give birth while an active Rotarian. There have been many fathers over the years but no mothers. CONGRATULATIONS to Lisa and her husband Scott!!!

ROTOPLAST PROGRAM

John Sales, Rotoplast District Chairman, announced a trip to Guatemala City with ten fellow Rotarians and 20 M.D.'s. They planned to be there for 10 days and be able to perform 100 surgeries. By the time you read this they will have returned, we hope, safe and sound.

2005 100TH ANNIVERSARY PROJECT

We need ideas for our 100-year anniversary project, which will be presented at the International conference to be held in Chicago in February 2005. Please come up with your ideas as to what NEW THING our club can do.

NICARAGUA

Jake Scheideman donated his $100 raffle prize for food for a family.

SENIOR PROJECT

John Harrington requested participation for a senior high school project. Only 1 hour is needed to critique a St. Helena High School student's presentation.

FINEMISTRESS ELAINE JOHN

Elaine started her repartee with the following "bell ringers" this week:

  • Dick Osborne will be honoring the many contributions Bob Trinchero has made to the community on May15th at PUC.

  • Joel Toller congratulated his father Frank Toller for 6 years of wonderful service to the city as mayor and city councilman and gave $100 towards his Paul Harris fund

Our "fine mistress" was in rare form when she quizzed fellow Rotarians on the content of "The St. Helena Star".  The Star's own Publisher Paul Krsek was not immune to her questions as well as Bert Johannson, Father Mac, Bob Trinchero, Gary Jaffe, and others. It was quite entertaining as well as informative of the goings on of our town.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN NAPA

Bob Ward

Bob Ward

Rob Andreae introduced our speaker Bob Ward, Public Information Officer, who spoke about "Building a Safer Napa", Napa Valley Flood Control, and Napa Transportation Management Plan. It was a very informative insight and outlook of the progress Napa's public works projects are doing. Highlights of the meeting were Napa's intent to have minimum disruption to the flow of traffic and conducting of business during construction operations. The 29 underpass at Trancas is a year ahead of schedule. Wonderful photos were shown to illustrate the progress and futuristic photos were shown, which really illustrated the good things to come. Water diversion and quality of water issues were brought up and discussed. Napa City has diverted some of the water to Napa Creek and attempted to transport other water for irrigation. To get more information on the progress of the various projects you are encouraged to go to the Web site www.napatraffic.info or call the hotline 888-826-8627. Bob Ward can be contacted at 707-258-7843 or e-mail bmartin@cityofnapa.org.

On April Fool's Day, after the welcome and recognition of visiting Rotarians, President Jeff said we would be inducting three new members next week and then he recognized Don Heydlauff. Don spoke at length about his fight with multiple myeloma, and thanked the 30 Rotarians and significant others for their participation in the 5K run/walk at Crissy field in SF last year. The race is used as a fund-raiser to raise money for MM. After the meeting Paul Kresk started organizing a group to go down for the event, which this year will be held on Sunday, April 13th. All members are welcome to participate. Please contact him for details.

STATE OF THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Frank Sottile

Frank Sottile

The speaker for the week was fellow Rotarian Frank Sottile, head of the local St. Helena Calistoga Boys and Girls Club. Frank's talk was very informative, and gave not only a very concise history of the club, but also many interesting sidelights of the many advantages and benefits of membership to the world's largest youth organization with more than three million members world-wide in over 60 countries. April 6-12 is National Boys and Girls Club Week and will be celebrated by addressing in daily symposiums for the youth the five core programs of youth development by the club: Character and Leadership, Health and Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. The local club hosts an average of 113 kids daily and for more information you may contact club manager Trent Yaconelli at 963-8944.
